WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Child Care for Every Family Network released the following statement slamming President Donald Trump’s newly released Presidential Budget for FY27, which includes a staggering $1.5T in defense spending, while cutting essential programs that families depend on–including child care. This budget comes only days after President Trump’s comments that the federal government could not “take care of day care” because it is busy “fighting wars.”
Andrea Paluso, Executive Director of the Child Care for Every Family Network, responded:
“Most people prioritize their families when they make spending choices. The President’s 2027 budget proposal makes it official: he prioritizes war. Once again, he has shown that he does not care about the child care crisis in this country that is impacting millions of working parents every day. Even those parents who are being asked to fight in this war. By funneling a record $1.5 trillion into defense – a 40% increase – while gutting domestic programs like child care that families rely on to survive, he has made his choice. Just when we thought he couldn’t be more callous to what our families need, the President chooses weapons over kids. Parents won’t forget.”
The President’s FY27 budget proposes:
- Cutting Head Start,
- Eliminating Preschool Development Grants (PDG),
- Eliminating the Child Care Access Means Parents In School (CCAMPIS) program,
- Flatfunding the primary source of federal child care dollars, the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), which a CLASP analysis has shown would amount to a significant decrease in available child care slots.
