WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Child Care for Every Family Network is strongly opposed to House Republicans’ budget resolution, which was adopted last night by a vote of 217-215. The budget resolution—for which President Trump has expressed support—tees up a reconciliation bill to advance Republicans’ cruel agenda put to cut the programs families depend on to fund mass deportations and handouts for billionaire donors.
Andrea Paluso and Erica Gallegos, Co-Executive Directors of the Child Care for Every Family Network, released the following statement:
Last night, House Republicans adopted a budget resolution which puts billionaires over families and takes our country in the wrong direction.
Their already very unpopular goal is simple: pass massive tax cuts for their billionaire donor friends and expand their cruel mass deportation effort–and pay for it all by taking a hatchet to the programs that families depend on to get by.
House Republicans’ budget resolution will tee up a bill that will make massive cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs that fund child care. And they aren’t stopping there–House Republicans have also floated eliminating the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, which 5 million families use to afford the cost of care.
But this is the start of our fight, not the end. Republicans may have abandoned families to cozy up to billionaires, but we will never stop fighting back and making sure families across the country know their cuts are to blame for the rising costs and worsening health and educational outcomes for our kids.
