“It could not be clearer that the Trump Administration simply does not care about our nation’s kids, families, child care providers, or economy.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Child Care for Every Family Network is calling on Members of Congress to address the deep harm the Trump Administration is causing to the child care sector with mass firings at the agencies that administer our nation’s child care and Head Start programs.
Yesterday, thousands of staff across the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) were fired, including from the Administration of Children and Families’ (ACF) Office of Child Care and Head Start. Reporting also shows that firings have been severe across regional offices, including many which have been left without any remaining staff.
Andrea Paluso and Erica Gallegos, Co-Executive Directors of the Child Care for Every Family Network, released the following statement:
“It could not be clearer that the Trump Administration simply does not care about our nation’s kids, families, child care providers, or economy. These mass firings have decimated the offices that administer our nation’s child care and Head Start programs, which are critical to our workforce. In some cases, entire regional child care and Head Start offices have been shut down with no remaining staff – and there is no plan on who will provide support to programs and families in those areas.
“They have one clear goal: to destroy the government programs and agencies that support kids and families all in order to fund tax cuts for the super rich.
“It’s absolutely despicable. The entire child care community is fighting back, and we urge elected officials to join us in holding the Trump Administration accountable and demanding that they reverse course immediately. ”
