“When parents are dropping their kids off at child care, the very last thing they should have to worry about is an ICE raid. Yet that’s the new reality in Trump’s America.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Child Care for Every Family Network released the following statement announcing their endorsement of the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act. This critical bill would codify common-sense protections–recently rescinded by the Trump Administration–to prevent immigration enforcement actions at sensitive locations, including child care centers and other places where children gather.
The bill comes amid the Trump Administration’s extreme agenda to ramp up deportations, including by requesting to deputize IRS agents and issuing arrest quotas. Currently, one in five child care workers are immigrants, and in cities like New York, LA and San Jose, immigrants are nearly half the workforce.
“When parents are dropping their kids off at child care, the very last thing they should have to worry about is an ICE raid. Yet that’s the new reality in Trump’s America.
“Across the country, we have already seen reports of parents pulling their kids out of child care because of immigration fears, providers preparing for potential raids, and new immigration policies terrifying children. It’s unconscionable. Every child in this country deserves a safe space to learn, grow, and thrive.
“The Protecting Sensitive Locations Act is a desperately needed first step to keep kids, families and child care providers safe. We wholeheartedly endorse this legislation, and we urge every lawmaker to push for it to become law.”
